After the war, the allieds took over the factory, and began to build cars. At first this was very slow,
building from the remains and parts on hand. But as the factory was rebuilt, new parts became available and production and
distribution of the beetles increased.

The coachbuilt versions of VW's were built on VW chassis but the bodies were constructed by outside companies.
Some of these were for utilitarian purposes, others were just meant to be sporty, and begin to lose the distinctive Bug
look.

During the beginning of the production years, not many 'KDF' cars were built for the public, dispite great
promotions promising otherwise. In the late 30's and early 40's a lot of car and other equipment for the war efforts were
built, and led to the factory being nearly completely destroyed by allied bombing raids.
